Gippsland Grammar news: Nov 5, 2021
Last Wednesday the VCE written examinations began and I have said a prayer each day for our students to wish them well. It might be something that you might like to do as well:
Lord, as our students take their exams bring back to their minds all that they have studied and be gracious with what they may have overlooked. Help them to remain focused and calm, confident in their facts and their ability and firm in the knowledge that no matter what happens today, that you are with them, always. Amen.
I know that our VCE teachers have also walked alongside our students on their exam days. Often with a smiling face at the entry to the exam room, an encouraging word, a last-minute check in and the reassurance that they are a team and that our students have ‘got this’. This process will repeat itself every day over the next five weeks. My sincere thanks to VCE Coordinator Mrs Judy Taylor who has been coordinating the exams; it is a huge task and she does a wonderful job.
Each year on the last Friday of October schools celebrate Australia’s ‘World Teachers’ Day’. At Gippsland Grammar we celebrate World Teachers and Staff Day as our entire staff are integral to who we are as a learning community. So last week each staff member received a small gift of chocolate with our sincere thanks for all that they do.
The challenges of the past 12 months have been significant for our staff and the care of our students has always been at the forefront of our staff’s mind. With this day of recognition in our thoughts this week, some of our junior students have shared the following special messages to our staff:
“My teachers help me and look after me. They let me play and I love them.” Nevada, St Anne’s ELC Transition
“Mrs Burgess reads us books and teaches us things” Sylvie and Arabella, St Anne’s ELC Transition, pictured below
“Mrs Crowe is such a great teacher because we get to make things with her, like thumb print art. She is fun and she knows lots of things which she teaches us. You’re the best teacher Mrs Crowe.” Elizabeth, Bairnsdale Campus Foundation
“Mrs Condron helps us to learn new things. Sometimes she is fun, and she helps students that are working on tricky tasks.” Mary, St Anne’s Year 2 (Chisholm), pictured below
“Teachers help me in class and give extra help when needed. My teacher (Mrs Vale) has helped me a fair bit with my reading.” Oliver, St Anne’s Year 3 (Tasman), pictured below
“Mr Cook is an enthusiastic teacher who loves to get us all outside and have some fun, but when it’s time to work, he makes sure we have our heads down and work hard. I would like to say thank you to him for a very fun and enjoyable year. We appreciate that he arranged great experiences like canoeing and other Outdoor Ed activities because we missed out on our camp. We hope he’s enjoyed teaching our class because we know that we have loved him teaching us.” Holly, Bairnsdale Campus Year 6
“Teachers have had a huge, positive impact on me and my life, and I cannot thank them enough. They have helped me with new opportunities, like learning my saxophone that both Mrs Germaine and Mrs Chilcott have been helping me throughout my school years. Oscar, St Anne’s Year 6 (Goolagong), pictured below with Mrs Chilcott
Finally, there are only two weeks left to order your box of Grammar’s ‘Gippsland Dozen’. This wine fundraiser was incredibly popular last year and sales so far this year indicate it may be even more popular this year. This is the only place where you can buy a curated box of Gippsland Wine from these local wineries in the one transaction and if you like the sound of this as a Christmas present, we can arrange for the wine to be sent directly to the recipient with a gift card.
