Gippsland Grammar news: July 16, 2021
It was so great to welcome all our students back to school for the start of Term 3 and I’d like to share a special welcome to those students and families who are new to our Gippsland Grammar Community. I hope all families enjoyed a restful break and are excited about the upcoming term. Term 3 is traditionally action-packed and we are also keen to reschedule a few events that were postponed last term.
Of course, we will continue to be proactive and do all we can to ensure our Community is healthy and following the current government guidelines. Term 3 can be a challenging term with colds and flus so it is essential that we ensure that students are well enough to attend school. If they are unwell, students will need to be collected and remain at home until their cold and flu symptoms have abated. The current guidelines require parents and visitors to wear masks when inside at School and we thank you in advance for your assistance.
Welcome Mrs Michele Wakeham
I am thrilled to welcome Mrs Michele Wakeham as our new ‘Deputy Principal – Teaching and Learning’. Mrs Wakeham has recently moved to Gippsland with her husband and three children and has spent the past few weeks orientating herself with our School. I know she is looking forward to meeting our entire Community over the coming term so please join me in making her welcome.
I would like to acknowledge Mrs Christina Kyriakou and Dr Kevin Cameron for their ongoing work and support of our students involved with the senior campus musical Matilda. In the first week of the break, Mrs Kyriakou was busy working away in the Garnsey hall on the set design while Mr Anthony King was organising the lighting. I would like to acknowledge the time and dedication of our staff; they are passionate about bringing out the best in every student by supporting them to develop their abilities.
Rescheduled: Family Fun Day
Our wonderful Prefects and senior students have organised a Community event at The Abbey at Raymond Island on July 25 at 10.30am. We will be planting some trees, playing games and then enjoy a sausage sizzle lunch to end the day. This event had to be rescheduled from last term so it is a great opportunity for students from all three campuses and of all ages to participate. I look forward to seeing you there.
Strategic Plan // Projects Briefs
Currently, the School has six Project Briefs underway, which are key projects that have been researched in order to make recommendations on how the School can review and improve current processes and initiatives. The outcomes of these Project Briefs will strategically advance Gippsland Grammar and include investigations into: Curriculum Review, Wellbeing, Student Leadership, Student Service Learning, Review of the Year 9 Program and our Online Presence. These Project Briefs have been led by our own staff who have been supported by leadership consultants Mr Neville Lyngcoln and Ms Rosie Rowe who have assisted the School in leadership professional development programs. Each team has 8-10 staff members and I would like to thank the staff for their enthusiasm and participation. I look forward to sharing more about the Project Briefs with you later this year.
Foundation Giving Appeal
I would like to share my immense thanks to our Community for the donations that have been received towards the Visual Arts & Technology Centre building project. We have received more than $20,000 so far, which is fantastic. However it is not too late to donate, and all contributions made before the end of Term 3 will be acknowledged on the Centre’s Giving Wall. It has been delightful to see many new families who are keen to enrol at Garnsey Campus for 2022. Our Heads of Campus Ms Ray, Mrs Evans and Mr Van Berkel would love to meet all interested families and share their insights about a Gippsland Grammar education. If any current families know of someone in your network who is keen to join our Community at St Anne’s, Bairnsdale or Garnsey, please encourage them to contact the School via firstname.lastname@example.org.
Gippsland Grammar currently has Scholarships available for our St Anne’s and Bairnsdale campuses, however applications close on July 26. Read more about our scholarships here: https://www.gippslandgrammar.vic.edu.au/scholarships.
Wishing you a lovely weekend.
