Bairnsdale Campus (9-11am)
Gippsland Grammar’s Bairnsdale Campus will host an Open Day on Saturday May 7 from 9-11am for East Gippsland families wanting to discover the advantages of a complete ELC to VCE education at the leading independent school.
Gippsland Grammar’s Bairnsdale Campus includes an Early Learning Centre offering three and four-year-old kindergarten programs as well as a Foundation-Year 6 campus, while the senior students from Years 7-12 attend the Garnsey Campus in Sale. The School operates daily private busses from various East Gippsland locations including Bruthen and Lakes Entrance and a Boarding House in Sale is a home-away-from-home for students from Years 7-12 and includes casual, midweek or permanent boarding.
Head of Bairnsdale Campus Virginia Evans invites East Gippsland families to discover the junior campus and discover the advantages of the School’s teaching and learning philosophies as well as the extensive extra-curricular programs.
“The key advantage of a Gippsland Grammar education is the seamless transition we offer from kindergarten years through to our junior school and then to our senior campus,” Mrs Evans said.
Gippsland Grammar Principal Leisa Harper, Bairnsdale Head of Campus Virginia Evans and Early Learning Centre Director Lisa Burgess will all be available throughout the Open Day to welcome families to the Wy Yung campus which offers picturesque views of the Mitchell River. Student leaders will also be on hand to answer questions.
A highlight of the Open Day will be the opportunity for families to explore Bairnsdale’s Early Learning Centre, which offers a three-year-old ‘Reception’ program and a four-year-old ‘Transition’ program and is rated as ‘exceeding’ the National Quality Standard.
ELC Director Lisa Burgess said the Open Day was a valuable opportunity for parents, carers and children to explore the beautiful purpose built classroom and landscaped nature playground after its recent redesign.
“At the ELC we offer high-quality exceptional early childhood programs.” Mrs Burgess said. “Our team of teachers ensure our students are nurtured, challenged and extended to become positive, curious and life-long learners.
“We understand the importance of the early years of your child’s education and will be on hand to discuss your child’s individual needs and explain all aspects of the educational program, which includes additional specialist lessons in Music, Japanese and Physical Education. ELC children also have access to the Library and have a Year 5 older buddy to support them as they transition into school.”
Gippsland Grammar School Captain and Year 12 student Mia Mackintosh, who has been a student at Gippsland Grammar since ELC and attended the Bairnsdale Campus from Years 3-6, said the two main advantages of such an environment had been maintaining the same friendships throughout as well as the ease in moving from junior to senior school.
“I’ve developed many connections across all campuses at Grammar,” Mia said. “With friends I met in prep being some of my closest friendships now in Year 12 and teachers from primary school still keeping in contact as well. And moving from the junior campus to senior was such a smooth transition, which is a credit to the Year 7 orientation week making the daunting change a lot less intimidating.”
Mia also reflects that being at a single school for her entire education has made her passionate about Gippsland Grammar’s traditions.
“These include the annual Cultural Festival, which is a day when I feel so inspired by the creativity and talent of my fellow peers,” Mia said. “As well as sporting events such as the athletics carnival where there is always an unspoken attitude of giving everything your best.”
Complimentary coffees and a barbecue lunch will be available on the day.
