Meet our staff: teacher Edward Wilson

Nov 20, 2020 | Community News, Garnsey News

Edward Wilson has been a teacher at Gippsland Grammar since 2018 after teaching across NSW for 7 years. When he’s not at work, Edward likes to bake sourdough bread, get his heartrate up by trail running and mountain biking around Gippsland and spending time with family and friends.

What do you love about working at Gippsland Grammar?
The students and the staff. Everyone supports each other so well. This has been particularly valuable over the course of 2020.

Do you have a co-curricular interest?
In 2021 I will be the House co-ordinator for Wellington Binks. I’m really looking forward to supporting our students to engage with the amazing extra-curricular activities that are part of the house program. Days like Swimming, Athletics, Cultural Fest easily features as highlights of the year for me.

What is the greatest success you’ve had at Gippsland Grammar?
I’ve taken a Year 7 or Year 8 Mentor group each year I’ve been at the School and this has given me the opportunity to help students find their feet and, more importantly, find their voice. It’s an absolute privilege to witness students morph into young adults.

What is your favourite memory to date of your time at Gippsland Grammar?
Coaching the Junior Boys Cricket team to an underdog victory against Newhaven in 2019.

2020 has been a challenging year, were you able to find a silver lining?
While Learn@Home was a great challenge for all, it also meant I was able to enjoy the messy lunchtimes with my 15-month-old daughter, Jeanie.

Gippsland is great place to not only work, but to live. What is your favourite thing about our region?
It is perfectly placed to enjoy so many of nature’s wonders, whether that be Mt Hotham and the Alpine country to the north for amazing winters, or Lakes Entrance or Wilson’s Promontory for beach adventures. Plus all of the amazing National Parks in between. And then there’s Melbourne just down the road, one of the best cities in the world.
