Garnsey Campus newsletter: June 12, 2020
As we look towards the last weeks of Term 2 it seems right that we are all back together. This week saw the Years 7-10 students and staff return to school on campus and it was a noisy reunion as students reconnected with friends and it felt like our entire campus was abuzz with chatter and catch ups.
It has been interesting to talk to students about their experience and while most were pleased to be back, many also enjoyed their time at home and at Garnsey we’ve been experimenting with how we can bring some elements of Learn@Home into our regular school day. I have enjoyed the calm transition between classes without bells signalling permission to move and students have started to develop some other ideas that we will consider over coming weeks. We are also looking forward to the return of Sport on Thursday afternoons and we await changes to restrictions in the next month, which will determine if we are able to commence Sport from the start of Term 3.
A reminder that next Friday June 19 is the final week of Term 2 and that students will return for classes on Tuesday July 14.
On Wednesday this week our Rock Bands and VCE Music students put on a lunchtime concert in the Quad and it was a great success. I have certainly missed Music throughout the term and Wednesday’s perfect winter’s day saw students enjoying the sunshine while several bands played, finishing with Queen’s Somebody to Love. The Music staff have done a wonderful job maintaining online lessons and working on pieces with their ensembles during Learn@Home however our ‘live’ instrumental Music lessons commenced again this week and we hope that health advice will allow ensembles to resume early next term.
DOBSONS UNIFORM SHOP AND ONLINE STORE
Social distancing requirements have made attending the Uniform Shop quite a long process for students so with this in mind I encourage families to use Dobsons online store and click and collect uniforms where it is possible. We will only allow students to purchase items on Thursday lunchtimes until social distancing restrictions are removed. I ask parents to note the designation of the 12.35pm to 1.30pm time on Thursdays as ‘Student Only’. This will avoid queues of students and parents waiting outside the Uniform Shop. At a time when parents cannot come onto School grounds, we believe this is a safer arrangement. I also remind parents that they must have an account with Dobson’s and that their children cannot place purchased items on the School account.
IMPORTANT TERM 3 DATES
Wednesday July 22: Year 10 Online Information Night and Subject Expo.
Wednesday July 29: Year 7-12 Parent Teacher Interviews on Zoom.
