Bairnsdale Campus newsletter: May 22, 2020
Preparing for our return to school has included much discussion, organisation and implementation of new routines to ensure we provide a safe environment for learning. That has now been all set-in place.
Most importantly, it is preparing our students for their return and putting them in the right mindset. After adapting to Learn@Home our challenge is to adjust our thinking to learning at school once again.
Many of us have found great advantages and comforts with Learn@Home. To shift our mindset back to school and its routines will take time and will require understanding from everyone: students, families and teachers.
When asking our students what they are looking forward to on their return to school, the unanimous answer was, ‘to see my friends’ along with ‘playing with my friends’ and ‘making new friends’. It will be lovely for the children to re-connect with their friends.
We’re all missing our Campus dog Wilson, but so we don’t miss him too much, each student received a ‘flat Wilson’ in the mail and it’s been lovely seeing how the students have enjoyed including ‘flat Wilson’ in their learning and isolation lives.
Schools are a place of learning however, first and foremost, they are a community and a place of belonging. That sense of belonging to Gippsland Grammar is what will assist us all in returning.
It will be wonderful to see our Foundation to Year 2 students next week and before long our entire campus will be together again.
Please remember that Monday and Friday next week are student-free days: Monday is for teachers to re-organise their classrooms and to re-adjust their teaching programs and Friday is for report writing. Please carefully read the letter which will be emailed to families later today, which outlines some changes to ensure our school community is kept safe. I’m sure for many of you, your weekend will be spent preparing for our return to school, I look forward to waving to you all at the gate on Tuesday.
Virtual Cross Country
It has been terrific to see the photos coming in from the ‘Virtual House Cross Country’. It’s not too late to find a course to run and upload your times and photos to this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/V8WW2VX
Your course might be along the river, around a track, or around the block; it’s up to you. Further details can be found on the document emailed to families which can also be found here (please insert link). The closing date is Wednesday 27 May, so get into your House polo top, summon your House spirit, take a photo and get running!
(It’s come to our attention that families with multiple students at School are unable to upload more than one result. So please email any extra results and photos to Sports Assistant Ben Kearnes at Ben.Kearns@gippslandgs.vic.edu.au so that they can be counted.)
